Work in Progress: Closings, page 2

Last year, in the clear light of a winter morning, pictures were the catalysts for stories, as worker after worker rose to speak about what the furniture factory had meant to them, and, in many cases, to their parents and grandparents. They spoke of their children and of their worries about the future. They rose also to thank Bill Bamberger, a photographer who came to record the changes at a pivotal moment in the history of their town and managed with his presence -- and the photographs around them -- to give perspective and meaning to their lives.
