Table Talk Help Page

Register first!

Before you visit Table Talk for the first time, you'll have to register. Click on the "register" button on any of our menu bars, like the one at the top of this page. This will take you to a page where you will be asked for your name, email address and password. Once you register, you'll never need to use this button again.

In the Table Talk section of SALON you can join in some of the liveliest conversations on the Web. Here are a few basics to help you find your way around.

The Table Talk Main Page

On this page you'll find the icons for our Discussion Menus. Choose from Books, Movies, Music, Television, Media, Multimedia, Issues and "I Think. . ." (the menu for any subjects that don't fit in the first seven).

On the Table Talk Main Page, you'll also find the New Talk link. New Talk will create a list of all discussions where new comments have been added since the last day you visited Table Talk.

Discussion Menus

Each Discussion Menu offers you a list of individual discussion subjects. Some discussions are linked to SALON articles; other discussions have been created by SALON readers.

To read any SALON article linked to the discussion, click the title.

To read the comments of other readers, click the Discussion button.

To see an index of other readers' comments, click the Index of Discussion button.

To add a new comment to the discussion, click the Post Comment button.

To start a brand-new discussion, click the Start a New Subject button.

New Comment Page

Use this page to add your comment to an existing discussion. Enter the text of your comment in the box provided. With some browsers, you may need to use the carriage return key to keep the text of your comment inside the box. We recommend that you do this in order to make sure your comment looks right once it's posted. (If you know HTML you're welcome to pick the HTML format option and submit your comment in that format.) Click the Erase button to start over. Click the Post Comment button to add your comment to the discussion.

You may create a custom title for your comment in the title box just below the comment box.

Use this page to start a new discussion. Enter a title for your subject in the title box, then enter a brief description in the larger box below. Click the Erase button to start over. Click the Post New Subject button to add your discussion to the menu.

On this page you can read the comments of SALON readers, editors and contributors. Click on any Post Comment button to add your own comment.
