YouTube killed the MTV star
A self-created video star.
As the music industry learns how to exploit the popularity of online video, there will be welcome offerings, and some very, very bad ones. But there’s also the chance that new stars will emerge on their own, without the help of a publicist or marketing crew. Singers like, say, L.A.’s Terra Naomi, whose “virtual tour” on YouTube has an earnest, low-fi appeal unlike anything you’ll see on MTV today.
