John Edwards' reaction to John Kerry's decision to endorse Barack Obama: You're so 2004.

OK, so that's not what Edwards is saying exactly, but he has come about as close as he can to putting it that way without looking entirely ungrateful for the fact that Kerry chose him as his running mate four years ago.

"Our country and our party are stronger because of John's service, and I respect his decision," Edwards said in a statement released by his campaign. "When we were running against each other and on the same ticket, John and I agreed on many issues. I continue to believe that this election is about the future, not the past, and that the country needs a president who will fight aggressively to end the status quo and change the Washington system and to give voice to all of those whose voices are ignored in the corridors of power."

In a message to those on his massive email list, Kerry says he has decided to endorse Obama because he can "bring transformation to our country" and "build a new majority of Americans from all regions who can turn the page on the politics of Karl Rove and begin a new politics, one worthy of our nation's history and promise."
