Well, the larger problems with the Post are a whole other issue.

But consider that even a craven, bleating, “conventional wisdom” hack who merely repeats whatever is coming out of the echo chamber at the moment is at least reliably toolish.

This on the other hand is a special kind of rhetorical trick, where you position yourself as a dependable ally and then use the attention you command to slip these sweet little barbs under the skin of naive listeners.

But it’s no sin if you don’t have these, which is what the Santorum is saying. So, no, he’s not right.

Today, she conceded I was right. Those folks are nuts.

As to your point that sex is only for creating children,even in marriage, are you kidding me? When a woman can no longer safely bear children, is the couple no longer supposed to have sex? What if the man is infertile?

Many Americans tend to be complacent about politics until they discover their own ox is being gored. And when the American women realize the GOP wants to control all aspects of their reproductive health they will get very political.

Love your comment about “attacking an individual’s right to conscience”, in your world the right to have actual freedom to control one’s life should always be subordinate to offending the conscience of some religious zealots.

In a word — yes.

I am really astounded that Joan Walsh could write a piece like this without even referencing the Republican debate in Manchester last January, when Democrats first launched contraception as a campaign issue. It was a very strange moment — and not one easily forgotten.

One of the moderators was former Clinton White House Communications Director and current Democratic operative George Stephanopoulos. He brought up the subject of contraception from out of the blue. (Which one can easily assume means it was a coordinated Democratic Party effort.) Anyhow, Stephanopoulos kept hounding Romney on contraception even though it had never come up before. Everyone watching was confused, as was Romney, about what the deal was.

As Dick Morris later noted: “You remember that ABC debate with that paid Democratic hit man? George Stephanopoulos went after Romney trying to pin him down on contraception and Romney kept saying, “George, nobody wants to make contracetion an issue” But Stephanopoulos kept pressing, “No, but do they have the theoretical power to do it?” Remember, it was five minutes long. People started laughing at Stephanopoulos. Now they come out with this thing on contraception. They wanted to create the idea — and it’s no coincidence that they came out with it after Minnesota and Colorado which were Santorum’s victories — they want to create the impression that the Republicans will ban contraception.”

So yes, crafty Dems DID conspire to make contraception a campaign issue. Only they’re really not so “crafty” — because it will blow up in their faces in the end. In fact, by November it will be just one more example of how Big Government under Obama is attacking the rights of the individual — and in this case, attacking an individual’s right to conscience by mandating an “our way or the highway” policy to our religious institutions.
