SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — A Santa Monica fire captain says up to 30 demonstrators have been pepper-sprayed at a protest at Santa Monica College.
Capt. Judah Mitchell says firefighters were called to the campus at about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday. He says five people were evaluated at the scene and two were taken to a hospital. Their conditions are not known but the injuries are not believed to be serious.
Mitchell says the protesters were pepper-sprayed after getting into a "minor" altercation with campus police during a Board of Trustees meeting.
