Well, I don't know. But one thing that is an indisputable fact is that less than 24 hours after the bombing, there was a bill written, disseminated and passed through both the House and the Senate. In less than 24 hours a law was on the books that eliminated the rights granted defendants called Habeas Corpus, or Show me the Body. It made the Government show evidence that you committed a crime to an impartial judge and their fellow citizens before they put them behind bars..

This right was considered a bedrock, undeniable human right since the Magna Carta.

The fact it's repealed in less than 24 hours after the bombing should tell you something doesn't pass the smell test. Nothing this important gets passed in 24 hours unless the fix was in. Not since December 8th, 1941 at least, and a lot of people thing even then.

But we normal innocent citizens didn't need to worry about it affecting us, it was just for Terrorists.

I remember telling everybody who would listen then that a "Terrorist" is anybody the government says is a Terrorist. They poo-pooed it then, and in spite of the expansion of the term a thousandfold since, people like you are still closing your eyes.

Sheep and ostriches always will.

Of course, a lot of these malcontents are cranks ...

... which is starting to beg a different question altogether: where in the hell does Salon.Com hide all its "centrist" cranks and malcontents?!? You know, the ones they claim don't exist because centrism is somehow auto-magically free from and impervious to extremism. They're "above the fray" or whatever buzzphrase of self-importance they've manufactured in the interim ...

Every single time the corporate press trucks out images of Oaklahoma City, the more often I come to conclude that the corporate press organization isn't doing anything different than the rightwing anti-abortionists do with their stockpiles of aborted fetuses printed on high-gloss Kodak paper. You know, to really make the carnage pop -- the gorier, the better!

The only difference is that press organization is trying to distract people from "always remembering" and "never forgetting" the WRONG things in favor of "always remembering" and "never forgetting" the RIGHT things. And of course, they're the centrist expert paragons of deciding for everybody else what is RIGHT and WRONG. See, we were told -- if not ORDERED -- to "always remember" Tim McVeigh and 9/11, and "never forget" them because those days "changed everything.

And it doesn't take a rocket scientist to conclude that if every dumbed down and distracted dimbulb is too busy "always remembering" and "never forgetting" McVeigh and 9/11, they don't have time to "always remember" the many ways the Bush and Obama administrations' have enabled and rewarded crime, corruption, malfeasance, rape, pillage, and plunder ... and "never forget" them. According to the edicts yammered incessantly from the corporate press and its high church of centrist Broderism, that shit's verboten.

And for good reason: if government agencies such as the FBI are capable of manufacturing Islamic terrorists out of thin air by deliberately playing on their fears and milking their religion, milking racism, etc. only to turn around and the slap the "extremism/terrorist" cuffs on him if or when he acts on those fears planted in his troubled head by the undercover asset -- as Glen Greenwald presented plenty of times (to the chagrin of many -- FUCKING GREENBECK, YOU LITTLE PRICK!), those government agencies are capable of anything. And they will manufacture no shortage of convenient scapegoats and boogiemen to keep you on the persistently vegetative voter-drone reservation with the full compliance and complicity of the corporate centrist corporate press.

After all, they're the Serious Adults.

They said so.

It must be true!

Tim McVeigh and Terry Nichols were just patsies in this bombing which was a false flag bombing, planned and executed by those associated with the US government. This article is another piece of fiction. Please see the block buster film "A Noble Lie" and get the real story!

I'm a Laura Miller fan, but "the government left us vulnerable" (to 9/11) reveals a breathtaking obliviousness to our history. Our government has consistently sold out Arabs and Muslims in general , ever since 1919. Before that, there WERE no muslim terrorists. By blindly following in the wake of the British Empire's "Divide and Conquer " strategy in the Middle East, we have gradually, and consistently alienated most of the muslim world, except for the redneck group chosen to operate the Puppet States. Our government didn't "leave us vulnerable", they CREATED the enemies we now have.

I remember hearing about the OKC bombing on the radio on the way home from work. The news people were convinced of a Middle East connection, but considering the date (the anniversary of the Waco Branch Davidian fiasco) I turned to my carpool partner and said "They've got it wrong. It's domestic."
I also remember the response from the Republicans in Congress to the bombing. Far from the crackdown on militias the conspiracy nuts among us are claiming as a motivation for a "false flag" operation, all I recall is investigations into the Waco and Ruby Ridge operations, as if McVeigh and his accomplices were somehow justified in setting their bomb.

Agreed! The colors are awful - the intense contrast is painful to my eyes.

Also, the comment sections are really screwed up - the begining comments appear not only at the first page but the last page as well.

Why did they do it, john o groats?

Why ask me? Why should I be obliged to know or even have an opinion on the matter?
All I know is that the damage and its pattern is not consistant with a air blast bomb going off at the street level to close to the building.
I was wrong about there being steel beams, I have not studied this bombing much. But it is hard to credit that a bomb from the street can knock out columns set back on higher floors when that would mean that the rebar would have to be cut.
There is also plenty of witness evidence to there being other bombs and yet they don't feature at all in the official story. Interestingly they don't seem to have been refuted either just not mentioned.
Given from what one can see and hence deduce from looking mainly at photos the story we have been told is therefore a false one.

But why do you assume that just because I can spot a false story I must then know the true one is quite beyond me.

In case this doesn't get placed where I wanted it, it is in reply to Another's also misplaced reply to me.

Jane Graham says she met three guys in the parking lot who had a paper bag with some wires in it and a building plan. That is some pretty glancing evidence: they could have been doing anything in there. She didn't even get a good look at their "plans"; she assumed they were plans for the building.

That is not a whole lot of evidence.

I don't think that it requires a great deal of speculation to assume that a goal of a covert operation to mine a building would be to do it covertly: without letting people know what you were up to. And while somebody may have been suspicious, a lot of people seem to have gone to work that day.

So my assumption is that if the government planned this, they didn't want anybody to know they were doing it. Otherwise, what would be the point?

But my question is: what would be the point in general? What goal was the government trying to accomplish, allegedly, by blowing up the building and making it look like it was done by McVeigh?

Why did they do it, john o groats?

It's probably just a coincidence that:

"...McVeigh received some twelve or more visits by Dr. Louis Jolyon West, the UCLA mind control expert for the CIA who pronounced Jack Ruby insane after he suggested a conspiracy in the JFK assassination. He also was the government psychiatrist who handled Sirhan Sirhan while he awaited trial. Jolly West was infamous for his early use of LSD on unsuspecting victims. He was the head of the CIA's mind-control program known as MKULTRA, and was a pioneer of electronic brain experimentation."

Also probably a random coincidence that:

"...In April 1995, the Omnibus Counter Terrorism Bill was struggling to get through the US Congress. After the OKC Bombing occurred, the tragedy looked as though it had been tailor-made to rally public support for the tyrannical bill."

Demonization of the rightwing and further polarization of the political discourse.

Could also have served as impetus for honest lawyers to contribute work, without pangs of conscience, to the Patriot Act which was in progress at the time.

Also, it scared the hell out of almost every person in America. That's good for the protection and surveillance industries. You know, like the Mafia...

Anytime the government rushes to close a case as huge as the Oklahoma City bombing you can be assured they are attempting to cover it up and pray that it goes away. Flight 800 was another great example of a government cover up, it was a shoulder held missile that took that plane down. The best of all was the cold blooded murder of Vince Forster. When they put the Park Rangers in charge of the case the red flags should have been flying high. We do not have any brave patriotic journalist in America today and because of that very sad fact the government can do whatever it damn well pleases. The Media are lap dogs for the politicians they contribute to and I will leave you to figure out who they contribute to.

If you want an amazing summary of events that the FBI intentionally ignored in the Oklahoma City bombing and the intentional cover up of the missile take down of Flight 800 I highly recommend the documentary done by Jack Cashill called Mega Fix. It is well worth the effort to get yourself a copy of that documented report. One highlight, there were 250 eyewitnesses that believe it was quite possible that it was a missile they saw headed in the direction of the airplane.
