Whitey Bulger’s girlfriend faces sentencing

BOSTON (AP) — The woman who spent 16 years on the run with former Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (BUHL’-jer) soon will know her sentence for helping hide one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives.

Catherine Greig (GREGH) is being sentenced Tuesday in Boston federal court. Her lawyer says the 61-year-old Greig should receive no more than 27 months in prison, in line with a probation department sentencing report.

Prosecutors want a 10-year sentence, citing her help for Bulger that included paying bills, shopping and helping him get medical and dental care. She pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to harbor a fugitive, identity fraud and conspiracy to commit identity fraud.

Authorities captured the couple in June 2011 in Santa Monica, Calif.

Bulger, now 82, awaits trial on charges he participated in 19 murders.

  • Many home-remedies are used to minimize the effects of tear gas. This woman has put a milky solution on her face, removing her mask after the tear gas dissipated. Before sunrise, the police came again for another round of teargasing.

  • People capitalize on the uprising -- selling flags, beer, gas masks, sky lanterns and spray paint to name just a few of the popular items.

  • On Monday morning, June 11, the police execute a strong offensive. Many plain-clothed police officers, like the ones seen here, clash with protesters in the side streets away from the main stand-off in Taksim.

  • The authorities seem to be most aggressive in the night, pushing protesters away from the square and park. After being teargassed this young woman catches her breath with other protesters on Siraselviler Street.
