Burger King has unveiled a summer menu including meaty sandwiches and sweet potato fries, but the only thing anyone is interested in talking about is the bacon sundae.

Global Post

Boston Inno describes it as “the most disgustingly awesome thing you’ll eat this summer”, while The Consumerist jokes“Burger King is giving us what we always wanted but were afraid to ask for”.

The bacon sundae involves a vanilla soft serve ice-cream with fudge, caramel, bacon crumbles and a thick-cut hardwood-smoked bacon for dipping. Altogether that weighs in at 510 calories, 18 grams of fat and 61 grams of sugar.

It has been trialled in Nashville, Tennessee since earlier this year, according to Associated Press, and will be available from American outlets for three months until Sept. 3, as part of the summer menu.

The sundae may be part of Burger King’s efforts to shake off the dust and reverse sliding market share, The LA Times speculates.  But, for the moment, web foodies remain divided.
