Madonna explains "Black Muslim" statement

The Material Girl fails at irony

"Ironic" (along with "literally" ) is probably one of the most misused words in the language.  After yesterday's odd Obama endorsement, the singer released a statement via her spokesperson:

"I was being ironic on stage. Yes, I know Obama is not a Muslim – though I know that plenty of people in this country think he is. And what if he were?"

If by "ironic," Madonna means, "using ill-conceived humor to make a point that doesn't need to be made," then OK. Imagine that statement as an Alanis Morrisette song lyric, and maybe it will begin to make more sense.
