CINCINNATI (AP) — Winning Ohio is complicated, with its variety of voter groups and swinging trends.

Diverse in geography, economy and demographics, Ohio is a state that one political scientist says offers a fairly close mirror of the nation. History and electoral math say the swing state is pivotal again this year, and probably crucial for Republican Mitt Romney to win. President Barack Obama is trying to repeat his 2008 victory.

The campaigns must reach out to parts of the Midwestern state that behave politically more like the East or the South, and to blue-collar workers, big college campuses, and teeming inner cities and well-heeled suburbs.
