Rare footage from inside a Syrian rebel town

BBC Newsnight journalist reports from Northern Syria, where government shells strike almost daily

BBC Newsnight’s Tim Whewell reports from a rebel-held Northern Syrian town, reduced to rubble by shelling from Bashar al-Assad’s forces. “Few days pass without a funeral” Whewell notes from the besieged, conservative region run by “poor, pious” Free Syrian Army rebels. The report also touches on tensions between secular and Islamist Syrian ways of life, which threaten to clash even if Assad’s regime is overthrown.
