Thomas Ricks, a defense reporter and Pulitzer Prize winner, went on Fox News to talk about how John McCain is backing off his plan to block Susan Rice's nomination to secretary of state. But the interview was rather unceremoniously cut short after Ricks told host Jon Scott that "Fox was operating as a wing of the Republican Party."
Ricks first said of McCain that he thinks "Benghazi generally was hyped by this network especially. And now that the campaign is over, I think he's backing off a little bit. They're not going to stop Susan Rice from being secretary of state."
When Scott objected to Ricks calling the controversy over Benghazi "hype," Ricks replied: "I think that the emphasis on Benghazi has been extremely political, partly because Fox was operating as a wing of the Republican Party." The interview ended there.
Ricks told Politico's Dylan Byers: “I had told the producer before I went on that I thought the Benghazi story had been hyped. So it should have been no surprise when I said it and the anchor pushed back that I defended my view."
