Kate Middleton is pregnant

It's been a wild year for the Royal couple: After surviving two separate scandals and a tour of Southeast Asia, St. James' Palace today announced that Prince William and Kate Middleton are, indeed, expecting their first child. The AP reports that Middleton's pregnancy is in its "very early stages," and that the 30-year-old is currently being hospitalized for severe morning sickness.

The baby will be Queen Elizabeth II's third great-grandchild and, behind William, next in line to the throne.

Get ready for the media speculation on baby names, gender and first outfit. Expect many, many, many none (OK, maybe some) of those updates here.

Because her pregnancy is so early on, Middleton has little to no bump to show off for the paparazzi.  In that way, it's a lot like the earlier phases of her time in public life. Here's a slideshow of Middleton not showing:
