MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — Thousands of utility workers from New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts say many are still waiting to be fully compensated for their efforts to restore power after Superstorm Sandy.

National Grid spokesman Patrick Stella says a conversion to a new payroll software system that preceded the Oct. 29 storm is to blame and the company is working as swiftly as possible to resolve the issue.

National Grid is under contract to operate the electric grid for the Long Island Power Authority, which had more than 1 million customers lose power.

Thousands of Rhode Island and Massachusetts workers were deployed to New York in the wake of the storm to help restore power.

Union officials say the workers often put in 18-hour days, and many are still waiting for their overtime payments.
