By now, you may have seen the following rant that's being shared on Facebook. It's been attributed to actor Morgan Freeman:
Like so many things circulating around on the Internet, it's not true. TheWrap's Todd Cunningham reached out to Freeman's publicist, who claimed the statement was a hoax. "He never made or posted any statement," Cunningham confirmed.
So, then, who did?
The prevailing theory is that a Vancouver man named Mark wrote the statement, joking that "if I know the internet, someone will attribute the quote to Morgan Freeman or Betty White and it'll go viral." And lo, Reddit turned it into just that: "Couple of us thought it'd be funny, since it was a well written article, to attribute it to Morgan Freeman," wrote Redditor Quintilian751. "Day Later, Reddit Front Page. Bravo, Internet."
