Music world helps Newtown heal following massacre

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — World-famous performers and the children of Newtown are among those participating in a number of musical tributes to the victims of the massacre at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Members of the Newtown High School chamber choir performed with dozens of Broadway star at a recent benefit show in Waterbury, Conn.

School choral director Jane Matson says people are turning to music as they try to heal in the wake of the Dec. 14 shootings.

Children from a performing arts school in Newtown recorded a version of “Over the Rainbow” with folk singer Ingrid Michaelson that rose to No. 12 on iTunes. The children also have been asked to perform this Sunday for the E! Network’s Grammy Awards preshow, a segment that will air from Newtown.
