JERUSALEM (AP) — Two hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners in an Israeli jail have ended their fast while two others have been hospitalized.

A spokeswoman for Israel’s prison service, Sivan Weizman, said on Thursday that Tarek Qaadan and Jafar Ezzeldeen have started eating after fasting since Dec. 3.

Lawyer Jawad Bolus says the two ended their hunger strike because the prosecutor told them he would not ask during a hearing in March that their detention be extended.

The four are held on administrative detention, a system under which prisoners can be held for months without charges.

Weizman says the two other prisoners on hunger strike were hospitalized to prevent their health from deteriorating.

Palestinians have been protesting for days in support of the hunger strikers and have warned of backlash if any of them die.
