China’s Sichuan hit by earthquake

BEIJING (AP) — A 6.9-magnitude earthquake has hit China’s Sichuan province, the site of a massive earthquake in 2008.

There was no immediate word on any casualties in the quake that happened at 8:02 a.m. (0002 GMT) Saturday.

The official Xinhua News Agency says it was felt in the provincial capital, Chengdu, 115 kilometers (70 miles) away.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake with a magnitude of 7.9 hit at a depth of 16 .4 kilometers (10.2 miles).

The 2008 earthquake killed more than 90,000 people.
