Space porn: These images are (quite literally) out of this world
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Authorities in a Maryland suburb of Washington say an off-duty city police officer has been killed in what may have been a “domestic-related homicide” and that police are on the scene of an apparent barricade situation involving the suspect.
Prince George’s County police Cpl. Maria McKinney said officers responded to a call about the shooting at 8:13 p.m. Monday in Upper Marlboro. She said “the victim was identified as an adult male who was shot and killed by a family member.”
She said the victim, whose name has not been released, was a member of the District of Columbia police department.
McKinney said early Tuesday that the suspect is believed to still be inside the residence, and that a conflict management team was on the scene. Police were trying to determine if anyone else was inside.

40 years ago the Apollo 8 mission flew up to the moon, orbited it ten times and then returned to Earth. This picture was taken from that flight and shows the Earth as it seemingly rises in similar fashion to a sunrise.
Sunrise from Expedition 36
NASA Flight Engineer Karen L. Nyberg of Expedition 36 took this photo of the sun rising -- a sight they saw nearly 16 times per day due to the speed of the International Space Station's orbit around the earth.
