Rick Perry compares "courageous" anti-LGBT equality activists to abolitionists

Perry went on to call the demand for gay equality in the Boy Scouts of America the "flavor of the month"

In conversation with the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins on Sunday evening, Texas Gov. Rick Perry called gay rights the "flavor of the month" and a "pop culture" trend that would "tear apart" the Boy Scouts of America.

Perry went on to suggest that activists pressuring the Boy Scouts to maintain its discriminatory policy against gay adults are akin to the "principled leadership" of anti-slavery and anti-secession lawmakers during the Civil War:
