WASHINGTON (AP) — The top Democrats in the House have discussed their to-do list with President Barack Obama over dinner.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was among the Democratic leaders sharing a meal at a hotel near the White House that lasted about 2 1/2 hours Wednesday. It was part of Obama’s effort to forge closer ties with lawmakers in hopes of finding common ground in the future.

The White House said the economy, immigration legislation, education and gun control were among topics discussed. The investigation into the Boston Marathon bombings was another topic.

Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, said lawmakers also discussed Obama’s health care law, which Republicans continue to try to repeal.

The Democratic National Committee said it would pay for the dinner.
