From Florida to Canada, incidents of blackouts are occurring on the east coast. Helicopter footage sent to West Coast news outlets shows lights across Manhattan flickering out while video and photos sent from cell phones and pulled from building cameras show citizens stranded in elevators and abandoning their cars and subway stations to walk home.

Despite these challenge, an overall festive atmosphere is spreading across the nation as people host “blackout parties,” enjoying candlelight and warm beer. There’s still no word on when power will be restored.
