Exclusive premiere: Listen to Ethan Johns's "Black Heart" from upcoming album "‘The Reckoning"

The 10-track LP follows a fictional character through 1850's America

Ethan Johns, a Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter and longtime producer who has worked with Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling, Kings of Leon, Joe Cocker, Tom Jones and Paul McCartney, is about to release his second solo album, "The Reckoning," in the U.S.

The twangy, brooding 10-track LP "details the travels of fictional character Thomas Younger as he pursues his wayward older brother James across the ocean, and eventually into 1850’s America’s vast Western frontier," according to the album's press release. Salon has exclusively published "Black Heart," a soulful track with a gripping guitar chorus, found towards the end of the album.

Released June 4 on Johns's label Three Crows Records, "The Reckoning" comes to America August 12 with a 10-stop tour. Listen to "Black Heart" below:
