Republican congressman Peter King is calling for "all out" surveillance of Muslim communities in the wake of Wednesday's shooting on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, lambasting liberal "morons" for their opposition to surveillance targeted at Muslims.

“With ISIS making a concerted effort to bring about these domestic attacks we have to go all out with surveillance,” King told Newsmax TV. “We have to monitor what’s happening in those communities and we have to be quick to call it terrorism.”

King proceeded to castigate critics of the New York Police Department's program devoted to spying on Muslim communities, which the NYPD ended this year after years of criticism from Muslim leaders and civil liberties advocates.

“What the NYPD used to until those moron at the New York Times editorial board, and Associated Press, and American Civil Liberties Union went after them … the fact is we have to find what people are thinking. We have to find out who the radicals are,” King said. “We have to find out what’s going on in the mosques which are often incubators of this type of terrorism.”

As chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee in 2011, King conducted McCarthyite hearings on what he called the "radicalization of the Muslim-American community." King attracted fierce criticism for his sweeping generalizations and Islamophobic fear-mongering. His self-appointed role as an anti-terrorism crusader is particularly ironic given his history as an "avowed" supporter of the Irish Republican Army, the Catholic terrorist army that long perpetrated violence against Protestants in Northern Ireland.
