The AP projects that North Carolina Republican Thom Tillis has beaten Senator Kay Hagan in North Carolina.

This was one of the few bright spots for Democrats in this Senate map. Hagan had maintained a narrow, 1 to 3 percentage point advantage throughout the past few months. She attacked Tillis' record cutting spending on education and other items as leader of the "Republican revolution" in the North Carolina state legislature. A libertarian spoiler candidate also seemed to give her an advantage.

But it is just not the Democrats' night.
