Sure, everything that came out of host NPH's mouth last night produced an uncomfortable moment (namely, his Snowden and balls jokes). But beyond the host's shaky efforts at comedy and likability, the Oscars gifted us with some stand-out moments -- moments that elicited terror and disgust and a newfound distaste for the word "squishy. "

You can watch some of these moments below:

Benedict Cumberbatch says the word "squishy."

Idina Menzel and John Travolta present an award together. Travolta caresses Menzel's face while saying "my darling ... my wickedly talented."

Melanie Griffith is asked if she's seen her daughter's film "50 Shades." She hasn't.

"Ida" director triumphantly ignores the playoff music. He isn't going to let anyone take this moment away from him (and he shouldn't).

NPH wears tighty-whiteys to spoof "Birdman," world speculates he's stuffed them.

Common ignores Oprah's high-five on the way to accept his Oscar.

Sean Penn makes a green card "joke" about "Birdman" director Alejandro Gonzalez.
