At the National Rifle Association's annual convention -- a meeting that featured appearances by legitimate Republican presidential candidates like Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, and Ted Cruz -- conservative firebrand and '70s rock icon Ted Nugent called Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid a "lying prick" and said, if the opportunity arose, he'd "shoot him."

Media Matter's Timothy Johnson reported that during the question and answer section following Nugent's speech, he was asked, "How and why did the NRA ever endorse Harry Reid to serve as the front man of Osama Obama?"

As Johnson pointed out, the NRA never actually endorsed Senator Reid -- but the organization did once contribute $4,000 to his reelection campaign. The relationship soured, however, after Reid introduced a bill that would have expanded background checks and closed gun show sales loopholes.

Nugent responded to this question about the minion of "Osama Obama" by calling this "possibly the most important question we could confront here because it is so confusing and, on the surface, so diabolical."

After performing a brief Harry Reid impersonation, he called the senator "a lying prick." Nugent then went even further, saying: "And because the left has no soul, he admitted he's a lying prick, and we haven't sent him to Cuba yet."

Nugent mocked NRA members who have threatened to quit because the organization donated to Reid, or because Grover Norquist is on the board of directors, or because the NRA "sends too much shit in the mail. Shut up! There are Marines with no legs who fought for your freedoms. I don't want to hear about too much mail."

"The NRA is it!" he shouted. "If your child is dying, and there is only one way to get to the doctor, would you get on Harry Reid's boat to get there?" When audience members started mumbling that they wouldn't, Nugent shouted back, "Then your child's dead!"

"I'd get on the boat, get there, and then I'd shoot him."
