"Pro-life traditionalist kind of guy" Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is happy to have any vote he can get these days -- even if that vote is coming from, say, Caitlyn Jenner, the self-proclaimed Republican whose Vanity Fair cover became a cultural touchstone this week.

CNN's Dana Bash asked Graham about Jenner's cover in a Sunday interview, citing the scornful Republican response from one local Iowa radio that it ran counter to "basic principles of male and female."

"If Caitlyn Jenner wants to be a Republican, she is welcome in my party," Graham responded, explaining that, despite his conservative values, he has to make some compromises if he's going to be running to be the President of the United States.

Graham told Bash that if Jenner "wants to be safe and have a prosperous economy," she should definitely consider voting for him. "I'm into addition," he said.

"I haven't walked in her shoes," Graham continued. "I don't have all the answers to the mysteries of life. I can only imagine the torment that Bruce Jenner went through. I hope he's — I hope she has found peace."
