Ladies and gentlemen, the new Speaker of the House is...Dick Cheney?

If Senator Tom Cotton has his druthers, the former vice president would be back in power

Freshman Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton (R) -- best remembered for undermining President Barack Obama by sending an open letter to Iran during tense nuclear negotiations -- has another grand idea that is sure to inspire and/or strike fear into the hearts and minds of the American people: bring back Dick Cheney.

In an interview with Politico's Burgess Everett, Cotton said that "these are trying times for our nation. It’s important to have a steady hand on the helm during times like this. I think experience really counts in a matter like this."

"I think House leadership experience really matters," he continued. "And as you know the speaker doesn’t have to be a member of the House: So therefore, Vice President Cheney for speaker."

Cheney spent over a decade in the House of Representatives, eventually ascending to the position of minority whip. However, the choice is a strange one for the far-right Cotton, given that Cheney himself endorsed California Representative Kevin McCarthy, who many believe removed himself for the running because of his lack of conservative credentials.
