Ben Carson may have temporarily suspended his campaign to hawk his new book and his surging poll numbers may show that his base of support is overwhelming made up of white women, but that doesn't mean that the only African-American running for president has forsaken his shot at winning a slice of the black vote.
Ben Carson is out with a new ad aimed at urban radio markets and crafted to appeal to fans of rap music. Actually, I'm not too certain who it is supposed to appeal to but the ad does feature a rapper encouraging listeners to "vote and support Ben Carson for our next president and be awesome."
Parts of Carson's stump speech are interspersed with booms from the rapper encouraging listeners to "vote, vote" and laid over a highly produced hip-hop beat.
"If we want America back on track, we've got to vote Ben Carson as a matter of fact," the unknown rapper concludes.
According to ABC News, Carson is spending $150,000 to air this ad for two weeks beginning on Friday in the radio markets of Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Birmingham, Alabama, Jackson, Mississippi, Memphis, Tennessee and Little Rock, Arkansas.
According to a new Quinnipiac poll, Carson picks up 19 percent support among black voters to 73 percent for Hillary Clinton. Other polls have shown Carson winning substantially less of the black vote, however.
