The list of all white Oscars nominees sparked conversation about the lack of diversity in Hollywood and prompted the hashtags #OscarsSoWhite and #BoycottTheOscars.
Thus far, Jada Pinkett Smith, Spike Lee and Snoop Dogg are among the African-American celebrities who have announced their plans to boycott next month's Oscars Award Ceremony.
A video posted on Smith's facebook page on Martin Luther King Jr. day in which she says that "begging for acknowledgement, or even asking, diminishes dignity and diminishes power," seemingly prompted responses of support from Lee and Snoop Dogg.
