CNN's lead political anchor Wolf Blitzer shocked viewers last week when he confused Prince's hit song "Purple Rain" with Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" on live television as he memorialized Prince in the wake of his tragic death.

The slip of tongue was so egregious that Salon writer Jack Mirkinson called it a "cruel twist of fate for Prince’s first CNN obituary to come from someone as ill-suited for the task" and viewers took to Twitter to express their disbelief — and for many, outrage — at the mix up.

But the mistake is hardly surprising coming from Blitzer who has repeatedly slipped up during reporting and also completely bombed his chance at Jeopardy in 2009 — finishing up with negative $4600.

Watch the top Blitzer moments that makes us question how the journalist keeps his job.
