"Eight events have happened in the last year that are supposed to happen only once in 500 years," Meyers said

"Late Night" host Seth Meyers on Tuesday took "A Closer Look" at climate change, the "one issue that deserves way more attention than it's getting" during this campaign cycle.

Last month, Meyers noted, the government's Climate Prediction Center, for the first time in recorded history, predicted above average temperatures in "every square inch of all 50 states" between August and October.

"Any time you cite these facts to argue that climate change might pose serious health or safety risks," he added, "climate deniers respond with mockery."

Despite climate deniers' best efforts to minimize the issue, recent weather events — including this month's deadly flooding in Baton Rouge, Louisiana — has made their task all the more difficult. According to The New York Times, eight 500-year flooding events have occurred across sixteen states within the last fifteen months.

"Eight events have happened in the last year that are supposed to happen only once in 500 years," Meyers reiterated. "Not to mention, on top of that, the fucking Chicago Cubs are in first place."
