How to ace the vice presidential debate: Mike Pence has a lot to lose against Tim Kaine

It's up to Donald Trump's running mate to avoid falling into traps that the Clinton team are sure to set

#WeThePeople Live's Josh Zepps and foreign affairs reporter Courtney Kealy spoke on Tuesday afternoon about what to look for during the vice presidential debate between Tim Kaine and Mike Pence.

As a guest on Salon Talks, Kealy warned that Hillary Clinton's running mate, Tim Kaine, could be "laying traps" for Pence, and it would be up to Trump's running mate to avoid putting his foot in his mouth like Dan Quayle or giving himself "more publicity than the candidate, a la Sarah Palin."

Pence can provide an establishment bent, Kealy said, and could blunt and moderate the Republicans' message.

Kaine, meanwhile, offers sincerity, which is something the public doesn't find in the Clintons.

"He rose up through the ranks," Kealy said. "He's a civil rights lawyer. He was on [the] city council. He paid his dues. There's no family money there. He worked and worked and worked to get where he is."

Watch Kealy's take on Tim Kaine below.
