After months of waiting, it's finally here.

The first trailer for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is out, and it does not disappoint.

The trailer begins with a glimpse at the lives of the heroes of the previous film in the franchise, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Rey is continuing her training with Luke Skywalker. Poe and BB-8 are hanging out again. And Finn is still finding his way around an aircraft.

But this is a new movie, and that's made clear as well.

The trailer is chock-full of new scenery and landscapes (the "vibrant" new filming technique definitely delivers on the island scenes), new aircraft (just get a look at those ominous red-smoke-trailing speeders), and new trials. (Does this mean bad news for Poe's black X-Wing fighter?)

And, of course, it looks like there will be more than enough cool spaceships, new creatures and space battles for both die-hard fans and newcomers alike.

As it comes to an end, the trailer suggests that it all culminates with a great big space battle between the Resistance and the First Order, but it also leave us with the dark words from the last Jedi himself, Luke Skywalker, implying there may be more mysteries to discover.

"It is time for the Jedi — to end," he says, as an image of him, backlit in a cave entrance, flashes across the screen.

The trailer gives us a great teaser, but leaves enough unsaid that it's safe to say it's going to be hard waiting until December to see what happens.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" hits theaters Dec. 15.
