Ann Hood is the bestselling author of seven novels including "Ruby" and "Somewhere Off the Coast of Maine," and a work of nonfiction, "Do Not Go Gentle: My Search for Miracles in a Cynical Time." She has won the Pushcart Prize and Best American Spiritual Writing award for her nonfiction work. Her essays and short stories have appeared in DoubleTake and the New York Times. She lives in Providence, R.I., with her husband and two children.

In this recording, Hood reads from "Total Cave Darkness," a story about an alcoholic who runs away with a Protestant minister nine years her junior.
