Daily Download: "Woke Up This Morning," Gary Lucas and Alabama 3

"The Sopranos" theme performed live with Captain Beefheart's guitarist.
"Woke Up This Morning"

Book coverThis is an odd one. Gary Lucas, who was the guitarist in the last version of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band and also worked closely with Jeff Buckley, is a semi-crazed, sometimes incoherently spazzed-out, but more often inspired guitarist with a particular affinity for playing slide. (He keeps a nice, erudite blog here.) On this live recording from a 2003 show in London, he invites up two members of Alabama 3 to perform their song "Woke Up This Morning" (which you may recognize as the theme song to "The Sopranos") with Lucas accompanying on National steel guitar.
