Exclusive Daily Download: "The Tower," Pearls and Brass

Pearls and Brass, a somewhat unlikely recent signing to Drag City Records, is a power trio that plays seething, brutal blues rock bristling with unexpected spikes, nerdy math rock complications and knotty riffs that double back in on themselves with cannibalistic ferocity. The songs are almost comically undifferentiated over the course of the album, but in short bursts it's a galvanizing, exciting sound. My favorite song is the album's first, "The Tower," which has a deeply creepy, wordless chorus, but also available for free download are "The Face of God," and, from their self-titled debut, "Highway Sermon."
