Exclusive Daily Download: "Seventeen Devils," Starlight Mints
Oklahoma indie-pop oddsters the Starlight Mint's third record, "Drowaton," falls more or less in line with their past releases, a sometimes gratingly schizo, relentlessly energized pop pastiche redeemed by some good songs and occasional brilliant instrumental and production touches. "Inside of Me" is one of the most straightforward tracks, and plenty catchy, but my favorite is "Seventeen Devils," which has a really nicely done pseudo-Arabian string arrangement and some nice Bowie-esque vocals by singer Allan Vest.
