Daily Download: "Jungle Taitei," the Boredoms

Jungle jams from the Japanese underground.
"Jungle Taitei"

boredomsConsider this a wigged-out companion piece to the exclusive I'll have for you on Friday. Coming out of Japan's flourishing noise-music scene, the Boredoms have been kicking around with a drum-heavy and hypnotic take on avant-garde rock music since the early '90s, but this track is one of their more accessible efforts. "Jungle Taitei" is from a recent reissue of the "Super Roots" series and starts out with some warm, drifting electronic drones before the wordless vocal melody and tribal drumming kick in. It's almost kitschy in the way it evokes a dark, misty jungle gathering, but the next time I dream about floating over the African rain forest, "Jungle Taitei" will probably be the soundtrack.
