The conclusion of Wild Islands (check local listings, PBS) looks at the threatened ecosystems of Madagascar and Mauritius. Part 3 of Into the Rising Sun (check local listings, PBS) draws on the diary of a member of Vasco de Gama's expedition to India in 1498.

S E R I E S

Shock jock Don Imus is profiled on a new Biography (8 p.m. EDT/9 PDT, A&E). Law & Order (9 p.m., NBC) continues chasing history as the most overscheduled prime-time series since "Wings" in the mid-'90s. Two more reruns air tonight at 9 and 10 p.m. Drew Carey's Whose Line is it Anyway? (9:30 p.m., ABC) has been a breath of fresh air among the reruns. This is the last scheduled episode for the summer, but the very funny improv show has been picked up for 13 more episodes to begin airing sometime next year. Carey's sitcom co-star Kathy Kinney joins the troupe in tonight's episode. Chicago Hope (10 p.m., CBS) reruns the Alfred Hitchcock-homage episode, with nods to "Psycho," "Rear Window," "The Birds" and other classics that really don't have anything to do with doctors and their problems. PrimeTime Live (10 p.m., ABC) ends its run with a retrospective of past stories. The newsmag will morph into 20/20 Wednesday for the new season.

ESPN's incomparable broadcasting team of Jon Miller and Joe Morgan proved their worth Monday when they simply shut up and let the pictures say it all after Mark McGwire hit home run No. 61 to tie Roger Maris' record for most homers in a single season. And the pictures were amazing: McGwire mouthing "We did it!" to his young son, Cardinals batboy Matt, and hoisting him up in an embrace at home plate; the mixed emotions of Maris' grown children, who stood and applauded while visibly choking back tears; McGwire's parents shrieking with joy in the stands; McGwire saluting the crowd and pointing heavenward in tribute to Maris. Miller and Morgan's respectful silence spoke volumes. This is a story that doesn't need or deserve any manufactured broadcast booth emotions.
