Weekend Pick

The Return of Jezebel James

Richard Foreman/FOX

Best known for her roles in indie films like "Dazed and Confused" and Christopher Guest comedies from "Waiting for Guffman" to "For Your Consideration," Parker Posey makes a foray into the sitcom world with "The Return of Jezebel James" (premieres Friday at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox), the story of a book editor who finds out she's infertile and persuades her surly ne'er-do-well little sister (played by Lauren Ambrose) to give birth to her baby. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino of "Gilmore Girls" fame, the first few episodes are somewhat uneven, but the story is intriguing and Posey and Ambrose are winning enough that we've got our fingers crossed that this fledgling comedy will grow up to be the kind of charming smartass that would make any mother proud. (This weekend, you also shouldn't forget to tune in for HBO's "John Adams," a seven-part miniseries that premieres at 8 p.m. EDT on Sunday.)

Also…

On Friday, cast members return for a "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew" reunion (7:30 p.m. EDT on VH1), Kate and Paul return for therapy with Gina on "In Treatment" (9:30 p.m. EDT on HBO), and Alfred Hitchcock's classic "Vertigo" airs at midnight EDT on TCM. On Saturday, "The Incredibles" airs at 9 p.m. EDT on Disney, "Torchwood" airs at 9 p.m. EDT on BBC America, "Flip This House" premieres at 11 p.m. EDT on A&E, and Superbad's Jonah Hill hosts "Saturday Night Live" (11:29 p.m. EDT on NBC). On Sunday, there's an "Everybody Hates Chris" double-header at 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. EDT on the CW, and Andre Agassi guest-stars on "Oprah's Big Give" (9 p.m. EDT on ABC). Newly married couples are put to the test on "Here Come the Newlyweds" (10 p.m. EDT on ABC), while the first season of "Dexter" continues on CBS (10 p.m. EDT).
