Daily Download: "My Tennessee Hills," Janis Ian

IAN"My Tennessee Hills" is from Janis Ian's 18th album, "Billie's Bones," titled in reference, Ian says, to her enormous artistic debt to Billie Holiday: "I stand on the bones of those who went before me. And when I think about it, I stand on a lot of bones -- but as a singer the biggest pile is Billie's." This song is a simple and elegant George Jones-style ballad, with gorgeous harmonies provided by Dolly Parton. Also available for free download is a live recording of another tune from "Billie's Bones," "Paris in Your Eyes," which, if you can get past the icky guitar sound and general tasteful singer-songwriter vibe, is tremendously moving.
