E T C.

Fox has announced the plot lines of the first five episodes of the new season of The X-Files, and to the surprise of, well, no one, Mulder (allegedly deceased) and Scully (allegedly terminal) are both going to be just fine. The fifth-season premiere on Nov. 2 and the series' 100th episode on Nov. 9 will be parts two and three of the "Mulder is dead" trilogy begun in last season's finale. In the Nov. 9 episode, Scully, near death, gets life-extending help from the Cigarette Smoking Man. Even scarier sounding, though, is the Nov. 16 episode, which is set in 1989. It traces the origins of Mulder's conspiracy-theorizing pals the Lone Gunmen and features Richard Belzer as Detective John Munch, his character on NBC's Homicide: Life on the Street. Now, what the hell is that all about?
