SALON'S TV PICKS FOR
WEEKEND, OCT. 24-26, 1997
BY JOYCE MILLMAN

S E R I E S

Dateline NBC (9 p.m. Fri., NBC) wraps up its week of "Sex Wars" reports with a show on sexual harassment. On Homicide (10 p.m. Fri., NBC), Pembleton heads the hotel murder investigation that now centers on wealthy businessman Felix Wilson (guest James Earl Jones). Wyclef Jean and the Refugee All-Stars appear in concert on From the 10 Spot (10 p.m. Fri., MTV). Chris Farley hosts Saturday Night Live (11:30 p.m. Sat., NBC), with music from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Wait, isn't Chris Farley a member of the Bosstones? The Simpsons (7 p.m. Sun., Fox) has a special 90-minute Halloween extravaganza consisting of three -- count 'em -- three spooky episodes, including a rerun of the famous "X-Files" takeoff (7 p.m.) and an all-new "Treehouse of Terror VIII" (8 p.m.). Sally Field provides the voice of a religious zealot trying to ban Halloween on a new King of the Hill (8:30 p.m. Sun., Fox). The new Masterpiece Theatre (check local times Sun., PBS) production "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" is based on an obscure Anne Brontë novel about a young mother with a troubled past. Tara Fitzgerald and Rupert Graves star.

S P O R T S

World Series: Indians at Marlins, Game 6 (7:30 p.m. Sat., NBC; Game 7 if necessary, 7 p.m. Sun., NBC).

Football: 49ers at Saints or regional action (1 p.m. Sun., Fox); Broncos at Bills or regional action (1 p.m. Sun., NBC); Raiders at Seahawks or regional action (4 p.m. Sun., NBC); Falcons at Panthers (8 p.m. Sun., TNT).

S P E C I A L S

The Rolling Stones concert (8 p.m. Sat., MTV) postponed from an earlier live taping because of Mick Jagger's sore throat goes on. Kim Delaney ("NYPD Blue") plays a '90s Rosemary carrying the spawn of Satan in the new TV movie The Devil's Child (9 p.m. Sun., ABC). Well, isn't that special. And the documentary The Haunted History of Halloween (9 p.m. Sun., History Channel) chronicles the origins of the now hopelessly commercialized holiday. Candy! Costumes! Scary TV movies! Bah humbug!

T A L K

Friday's lineup: Rosie O'Donnell (syndicated) welcomes Jenny McCarthy, Anne Rice and Wynonna; a rerun of David Letterman (CBS) features Howard Stern and Rosie Perez; Jay Leno (NBC) has a rerun of his fifth anniversary show with Jerry Seinfeld; Alexandra Wentworth and Rob Estes are panelists on Politically Incorrect (ABC); Charlie Rose (PBS) has scheduled segments on the movie "The Long Way Home" and singer Joe Jackson, who was supposed to be on earlier in the week but wasn't.
