SALON'S TV PICKS FOR
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 19, 1997
BY JOYCE MILLMAN

S E R I E S

Where have we seen them together before?: Meredith Baxter guests as Michael J. Fox's mother on Spin City (8 p.m., ABC). On Star Trek Voyager (8 p.m., UPN), Torres is arrested and charged with "violent thought" on a planet of telepaths where merely thinking about a crime is prohibited. Charlie breaks the news of his illness to his family on Party of Five (9 p.m., Fox). Emma Thompson guest stars as herself on a sly episode of Ellen (9:30 p.m., ABC) that pokes fun at the Hollywood closet. Sean Penn also has a cameo. This episode immediately follows the raunchy and farcical Drew Carey Show (9 p.m., ABC), which tonight has an episode where Drew learns that his older brother is a transvestite. Tee-hee. Any bets on which show gets the viewer advisory, "Drew" or "Ellen"? On Chicago Hope (10 p.m., CBS), Austin and McNeil are flying to London for a conference when a midair crisis forces them to perform emergency surgery. PrimeTime Live (10 p.m., ABC) has a report on a study linking child abuse and sudden infant death syndrome.

S P O R T S

Basketball: Magic at Cavs (8 p.m., TBS).
