Variety reports that the networks' news divisions are gearing up for Desert Storm II. NBC has hired retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf as its prime military analyst. CBS will go with retired Gen. Buster Glosson, who oversaw Desert Storm air campaign plans seven years ago. ABC has yet to announce its expert. CNN, which has had a 16-person crew (including Desert Storm I star Peter Arnett) in Baghdad since October 1997, will use Gen. Perry Smith as its top military analyst. Fox News Channel, a new player in the Super Bowl of war, has hired Adm. William Flanagan, retired commander of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, to provide color commentary. The Variety story describes network news executives as being assured by their Pentagon sources that action won't begin until "on or around Feb. 22." After the Olympics.
