Also, James Spader guests as a recovering alcoholic who angers George. ER (10 p.m., NBC) reruns an episode so old, Sherry Stringfield is in it. T A L K Rosie O'Donnell (syndicated) hosts Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and
the cast of "Lethal Weapon 4" (yes, there is such a thing); Bob Dole and
Marilyn Manson are together on David Letterman (CBS); Jay Leno
(NBC) welcomes Gina Gershon; Stanley Crouch is scheduled for Charlie
Rose (PBS); Wayne "Newman" Knight and Don Cornelius are panelists on
Politically Incorrect (ABC).
E T C. Variety reports that the networks' news divisions are gearing up for
Desert Storm II. NBC has hired retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf as its
prime military analyst. CBS will go with retired Gen. Buster Glosson, who
oversaw Desert Storm air campaign plans seven years ago. ABC has yet to
announce its expert. CNN, which has had a 16-person crew (including Desert
Storm I star Peter Arnett) in Baghdad since October 1997, will use Gen.
Perry Smith as its top military analyst. Fox News Channel, a new player in
the Super Bowl of war, has hired Adm. William Flanagan, retired commander
of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, to provide color commentary. The Variety story
describes network news executives as being assured by their Pentagon
sources that action won't begin until "on or around Feb. 22." After the
Olympics.
