SALON'S TV PICKS FOR
THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 1998
BY JOYCE MILLMAN

S P E C I A L S

The documentary Cinderella Season: The Lady Vols Fight Back (7 p.m., HBO) looks at the 1996-97 Tennessee Lady Vols as they attempt to win their second NCAA women's basketball title in a row. El Niño too tame for you? Fox is rerunning When Disasters Strike (8 p.m., Fox), featuring footage of hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and assorted other telegenic catastrophes. The new TV movie Edna Buchanan's "Nobody Lives Forever" (9 p.m., ABC) stars Greg Evigan as a Miami homicide detective caught up in romantic intrigue with two mysterious women. Yes, it is a slow night for television.

S E R I E S

On Friends (8 p.m., NBC), Phoebe learns that she's carrying triplets and Ross makes a decisive move regarding Emily. Finch is the only one who sees a seemingly perfect new assistant's ugly side on Just Shoot Me (8:30 p.m., NBC). There's a rumor going around that there are actually a handful of original Seinfeld (9 p.m., NBC) episodes left. No evidence of that tonight. It's a rerun of the one about George's huge wallet and Puddy's fur coat. 48 Hours (10 p.m., CBS) does its version of "When Disasters Strike" with a look at El Niño storm damage in California and Florida.

T A L K

Rosie O'Donnell (syndicated) welcomes Melanie Griffith; Dolly Parton and Bob Hoskins guest on David Letterman (CBS); a rerun of Jay Leno (NBC) features Michael Jordan and Kevin Spacey; Tom Snyder (CBS) talks with Martin Mull; scheduled guests on Charlie Rose (PBS) include Larry King and Kathy Bates; Russell Banks and Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating are panelists on Politically Incorrect (ABC); Conan O'Brien (NBC) is a rerun with Ben Stiller and Dan Cortese.

E T C.

My husband won an Oscar and all I got was this crummy cartoon: Linda Hamilton, who is married to "Titanic" director James Cameron and starred in "The Terminator" for him, will provide the voice of Nemesis, demi-goddess of vengeance, in the upcoming animated series Disney's Hercules ... Fox and ABC are planning a David E. Kelley sweeps stunt for April 27. Dylan McDermott from Kelley's ABC series The Practice will guest on Kelley's Ally McBeal on Fox at 9 p.m. Then the story will continue on "The Practice" at 10, with Gil Bellows from "Ally" guesting. Some Fox affiliate stations are not happy about the network encouraging viewers to defect to ABC, thus cutting into their audiences for local newscasts and other affiliate programming ... The inspiration for the Seinfeld Soup Nazi, Al Yeganeh, will appear on the Home Shopping Network this Friday (7 p.m.) to plug his new line of soups. This was the same guy who threatened to sue NBC if the Soup Nazi ever appeared again.
