Nickelodeon and the Children's Television Workshop have joined forces to
launch Noggin, a 24-hour children's network that will be available
to cable and satellite systems in January 1999. Programming will consist
of reruns of CTW series like Sesame Street, Ghostwriter and The
Electric Company and reruns of Nickelodeon's Blue's Clues, Gullah
Gullah Island and Nick News, as well as original series.
First-run episodes of "Sesame Street" and "Blue's Clues" will continue to
air on PBS and Nickelodeon ... A&E announced its programming slate for
next season. Along with the usual BBC miniseries ("The Scarlet Pimpernel,"
starring Richard E. Grant, and a new version of "Vanity Fair"), A&E will
air such American-made fare as a P.T. Barnum miniseries, a Hallmark
production of "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" and a TV movie based on the
romance between Lillian Hellman and Dashiell Hammett ... NBC has unveiled
some of its plans for summer. Remember last year's It's New to You
rerun slogan? Expect a repeat.
